The Instagram hacks worth your time are documented features, not loopholes: trial reels that reach non-followers first, up to five profile links, posts scheduled 30 days ahead, a message scheduled inside a chat, and a switch that stops others reusing your reels. Each has its menu path below.

Twelve are grouped by what you want to do. Every path and limit comes from Instagram's Help Center, read on 12 October 2026, and the paths start from your profile.

Which Instagram tips and tricks help the right people find you?

Three Instagram tips and tricks put your best work in front of more people: trial reels, pinned posts and a list of up to five links.

1. Test a reel on non-followers with trial reels

A trial reel is shown to people who don't follow you first, so you can test an idea before your followers see it. You need a public account with at least 200 followers if it's a professional account, or 1,000 if it's a personal one. Record a new reel, tap Trial before you share, then tap Next and Share. Followers won't see it in Feed or Reels, and it stays off your profile until you share it with everyone. Insights appear within 24 hours. Instagram says a reel you've shared before may get limited reach as a trial, so use a new one. More in trial reels.

To publish a trial, open the reel, tap View insights, then tap Share to everyone. You can also turn on Share to everyone automatically under Trial settings, which applies to every future trial reel until you change it.

2. Pin up to three posts

You can pin up to three posts to the top of your profile. Tap one of your posts, tap Options in the top right, then tap Pin to main grid. Tap Unpin from main grid and the post returns to its original place in your grid.

Your profile can hold up to five websites, and anyone, on or off Instagram, can see them. Tap Edit profile, tap Links, then tap Add external link. To change the order, tap Options, then Reorder links, and drag a link up or down.

Which Instagram features save you time?

Four features let you do the work once: scheduled posts, reel drafts, scheduled messages and message edits.

4. Schedule a post or reel

If your account is public, you can schedule reels, photos and carousels up to 30 days ahead, up to 25 posts a day. Tap Create, choose Post or Reel, pick your media and tap Next, add a caption, tap More options, and turn on Schedule this post or Schedule this reel. Choose a date and time, then tap Done, Back and Schedule. You'll find what's queued under Menu, then Scheduled content below Your insights and tools. Instagram says collaborative posts, product tagging, sponsored posts and fundraisers can't be scheduled yet. More in can you schedule Instagram posts.

5. Save reel drafts

Drafts are saved on your device, there is no limit to how many you can keep, and they are lost if you uninstall the app. On the reel you're recording, tap Next, tap Next again, then tap Save draft. To finish one, open your profile, tap Reels, then Drafts. A draft doesn't follow you to another device, and downloading a reel won't keep music you added from Instagram's library.

6. Schedule a message in a chat

You can write a text message now and have Instagram send it later. Open a chat, type your message, press and hold the send button, choose a date and time, and confirm. Only you can see it until it sends, and the time zone follows your device settings. It is text only, so photos, videos and GIFs can't be scheduled, and Instagram offers the steps for phone and tablet apps, not computers. Tap Scheduled message at the bottom of the chat to manage it. It works inside an existing chat, so it isn't a way to reach people who haven't written to you: see can you schedule Instagram DMs.

7. Edit a message after you send it

You have up to 15 minutes to edit a message, and each message can be edited up to five times. Press and hold the message, tap Edit, change the text and tap Send. The word Edited appears above it. Someone may already have read the original or seen it in a notification, and messages with mentions or commands can't be edited, though you can unsend them.

How do you keep your inbox and comments manageable?

Three settings keep your inbox and comments under control: Mark as unread, chat frequently asked questions and Hidden Words.

8. Mark a chat as unread (creator accounts only)

Mark as unread puts a blue dot back on a chat so you remember to answer it later, and Instagram says it is only available on creator accounts. Tap Messages, press and hold a conversation, then tap Mark as unread. It changes your inbox only: it doesn't mark anything unread for the other person and doesn't affect your Activity Status. Tap the chat to clear the dot.

9. Answer common questions with chat FAQs

Frequently asked questions show people up to four questions when they try to message you. Tap Menu, then Business tools and controls, then Frequently asked questions, and add your questions with optional automated answers. This is for business and creator accounts. Someone who taps a question lands in your Requests, and you need to accept the request before you can reply.

10. Hide unwanted comments and set Hidden Words

Instagram can hide offensive comments for you, and it can hide words you choose. Hide unwanted comments is on by default: tap Menu, then Comments, then Hide unwanted comments, and pick None, Some or More. For your own list, tap Menu, then Hidden words, and add words, phrases, numbers or emojis separated by commas. Hide unwanted message requests is off by default and lives under Menu, Messages and story replies, then Message requests. Hidden comments still count toward your comment total, and the commenter isn't told. Under Comments you can also choose who may comment, or turn comments off. The steps are in how to hide comments on Instagram.

Which Instagram features protect your work and show what is working?

Two settings protect your work and show what's working: the reuse switch and your dashboard.

11. Turn off reuse of your reels and posts

On a public account, other people can reuse your reels, feed videos and photos in remix, sequence, templates and stickers unless you turn that off. Tap Menu, then Sharing and reuse, and toggle off Posts or Reels under Allow people to create with and reuse your content. You can also turn reuse off for a single post. Content already made with your media stays on Instagram unless you delete your original, and you can't turn off reuse of your original audio, text or comments.

12. Open your dashboard

Instagram's dashboard shows reach, engagement and audience demographics, with a summary of the last 30 days and See all insights for more. On a professional account, tap Professional dashboard on your profile. On a public personal account, tap Menu, then Your dashboard below Your insights and tools. The tools inside vary by account type, region and eligibility, and where the rest of them sit is in Instagram creator tools and controls.

Where this stops working

  • Menus change often. The paths here come from Help Center articles read on 12 October 2026, and your app version may label things differently.
  • None of this is a growth guarantee. We found no Instagram source saying any of these raises reach. Trial reels are a test: Instagram says they are ranked on their own and don't affect your standard reels.
  • They don't answer your audience for you. Chat questions send people to Requests, and no setting above replies to a comment with a DM. When a post draws comments asking for your link, inDM replies to the comment and sends the link as a DM, on Business and Creator accounts.
  • No outside tool is needed. Everything above is Instagram's own, so none of it requires giving a password to another app.

Pick the two or three that match how you work this week, open the menu path, and switch them on.
