Two Instagram-first tools, compared honestly
Inro and inDM share a philosophy: Instagram only, done properly. The differences live in the builder, the preview, and the pricing shape.
Inro is the closest philosophical neighbor inDM has: Instagram-first, creator-first, and backed by the best educational content in the category. Where inDM stakes its claim: automations anchored to your actual posts with a live DM preview while you build, and one plan at two sizes you can price in your head. Where the table below says "not verified," take it literally, check their site, and tell us if we're out of date.
Why creators switch
See exactly what sends
inDM's live preview renders the whole exchange (opener, button tap, link card) as Instagram will show it, while you're still typing. No test-DM-yourself loop.
One plan, no decoding
Free forever with unlimited messages, then one price: $4.99 your first month, $14.99 after. Nothing is metered, so next month costs what this month cost regardless of what your posts do.
Your content is the builder
Open My Content, pick the reel that's getting comments, tap Automate this. The automation lives where the attention already is.

The pricing math
Free forever: $0, no card, unlimited messages, every automation type, unlimited keywords, the follow and email gates, automation and audience analytics, the unified inbox and export. Nothing is metered on either plan, so there is no allowance to forecast and nothing to run out of. Free connects one Instagram account. Growth removes app branding, connects unlimited Instagram accounts, takes the limit off how many automations you keep, carries multiple links in one automation, sends a follow-up message hours after the first, and shows you who clicks your links and the countries they came from, at $4.99 for your first month, then $14.99 a month. inDM bills in USD at the same price wherever you are.
Priced on contacts activated per month, auto-scaling through banded tiers. As of 2026-08-04: Free €0 for 100 activated contacts a month, Pro from €12.99 at the 101-500 band and climbing with the band, Annual Pro €1,249 a year covering 10,000+ a month at a fixed price, and a managed plan from €200 a month. CRM contacts are unlimited on every plan, only activation is metered.
The meters differ: Inro counts the people you activate in a month, inDM counts the messages sent, and one comment-to-DM conversion spends two of ours. Inro's band pricing means the rate moves with volume rather than sitting flat, so the honest comparison is to take your last three good posts, count people reached and messages sent, and price both. Note the currency too, theirs is euros, ours dollars. Figures as of 2026-08-04.
Where Inro.social is genuinely strong
Where Inro is genuinely strong:
- Content and education. Their playbooks, guides, and SEO presence are the best in the category. You can learn the whole comment-to-DM discipline from their library alone.
- Track record. They've been shipping Instagram-only automation longer than we have.
- A deeper feature set. As of 2026-08-04 their published plans include an AI agent, payments in DMs, an integrations marketplace, A/B testing, webhooks and a private API. inDM does none of those today. If you want an AI answering on your behalf, that is a real gap and it is theirs.
- A richer free tier for CRM work. Free covers 100 activated contacts a month, indefinitely, with unlimited CRM contacts. Ours sends without limit, but contacts are light by design rather than a sales CRM. If you want real CRM depth without paying, theirs is the better shape.
- Feature parity. Several rows in our table read "not verified", that's us being careful, not coy. Verify against their site; if we're wrong somewhere, use the contact link and we'll correct it.

Questions, answered plainly
How is inDM actually different from Inro?
The philosophies rhyme; the products differ in feel. inDM is built around the live DM preview, automations attached to specific posts, and a single flat plan. Inro's strength is its depth of playbooks and time in the market. Both trials are free. The honest test is running the same automation in each.
Is this comparison complete?
It's as complete as we can verify. Where we couldn't confirm a feature on their current plans we marked it 'partial, not verified' rather than guessing. If something's out of date, tell us and we'll fix it with the date noted.
Which should a brand-new creator pick?
Either will teach you the core play: keyword in the comments, link in the DM. Pick inDM if you want the shortest path from a real post to a live automation and pricing you don't have to think about. Pick Inro if you want to grow inside their educational ecosystem.
Can I switch from ManyChat or another tool?
Yes. Disconnect isn't even required first: connect your Instagram to inDM, rebuild your key automations (most creators have three or four that matter), preview, and set them live. Conversation history doesn't transfer between tools, no tool can import another's, so export your contacts from the old tool for your records. The switch guides walk through the order of operations.
Is Instagram DM automation allowed?
Yes. When it runs through Meta's official Instagram API on a professional account, and only messages people whose own action invited it, like commenting a keyword or replying to a story. That's exactly how inDM works. What breaks the rules is different: unofficial apps that ask for your password, scraping, purchased engagement, and cold outreach to people who never engaged.
