One link that opens a DM with you
Build an ig.me link and matching QR code that start an Instagram DM with you from anywhere: an email signature, a website button, a code at your counter.
The QR code and first link both open a DM with you (your DMs must be open to everyone for strangers to use it). The second is your profile link.
Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type here is stored or sent anywhere.

An ig.me link opens a direct message thread with your account. No profile stop, no search, no hoping somebody finds the right button. The format is ig.me/m/yourusername, and this tool builds yours along with a QR code and a profile-link fallback.
The QR code
The tool renders a QR for the same link, so a conversation can start from the physical world: a table tent, a flyer, a business card, a shop window, the back of a delivery slip. Someone points a camera and Instagram opens on a thread with you. Download it as a PNG for print or on-screen use.
The part almost nobody uses on purpose
There is a rule underneath Instagram messaging that makes a DM link more valuable than it looks. A business account cannot message someone who has not messaged it first, and once a person does send a message, there is a 24-hour window in which the business can reply freely, including with a link.
A DM link is the cheapest way to have somebody open that window themselves. When a person arrives through ig.me, they have started the conversation, so you can answer with a link, a price, a booking page or a file straight away. Compare that with a comment on a post, where you get one private reply, within 7 days, and then nothing further until the person writes back.
So the DM link is not only a nicer front door. It puts the person on the side of the rule where you can be most useful, immediately.
Where to put it
- Email signature. The one place a link sits for months and costs nothing.
- Your website's contact section, next to the form nobody fills in.
- YouTube and podcast descriptions, where the audience is already in a listening mood and Instagram is a lighter ask than a form.
- A QR at the counter, on packaging, or on a receipt. This is the strongest one for a physical business, because it converts a person who is already standing in front of you into a contact you can reach next week.
- Your Instagram bio, as the action rather than a link to somewhere else entirely.
What an ig.me link will not do
The honest boundary. It needs the Instagram app to open properly, and on desktop it will usually land on the web version rather than a native thread. If your DMs are closed to people who do not follow you, a stranger following the link gets nowhere, which is a setting worth checking before you print anything (Settings, then Messages). And an ig.me link carries no tracking of its own: you cannot tell how many people tapped it, only that some of them arrived. If attribution matters, put a link you control in front of it and redirect.
This is the link in, not the link out
Worth separating clearly, because the two get confused constantly. An ig.me link is a standing address that lets somebody start a conversation with you. It travels outward and points inward.
The opposite motion is delivering a link to someone automatically: they comment a keyword on your post and the thing you promised arrives in their DMs. That is comment-to-DM, it runs on a different Instagram mechanism, and it is what turns a busy comment section into conversations rather than a busy comment section.
Most accounts want both. The DM link is how strangers reach you from off Instagram. Comment-to-DM is how the people already on your posts get an answer.
How to use it
Enter your username
With or without the @. The tool builds your ig.me DM link, your profile link as a fallback, and a QR code for the DM link.
Copy the link or download the QR
One tap copies the link. The QR downloads as a PNG, which is what you want for anything going to print.
Check your message settings first
If your DMs are closed to people who do not follow you, the link works only for followers. Settings, then Messages, before you commit it to anything printed.
Answer inside 24 hours
Once somebody messages you, Instagram gives you a 24-hour window to reply freely. It is the most useful day you get with a new contact, so it is worth having something ready.

What is an ig.me link?
Instagram's official deep link for messages. The format is ig.me/m/yourusername, and opening it starts a direct message thread with that account rather than landing on the profile first.
Why send people to a DM instead of a profile?
A profile is a browse and a DM is a conversation. It also matters mechanically: outside of a single reply to a comment, a business account may only message someone who messaged it first, so a person arriving through a DM link has opened a 24-hour window in which you can reply with a link, a price or a booking page immediately.
Do Instagram DM links work for everyone?
The person needs the Instagram app for it to open a native thread, and your DMs need to be open to people who do not follow you if strangers are going to use it. On desktop the link generally opens the web version instead. The profile link this tool also generates is the fallback.
Can I track clicks on an ig.me link?
Not directly. Instagram provides no click data for these links, so you can see that people arrived but not how many tapped. If you need the number, point the QR or button at a redirect you control and forward it to the ig.me link from there.
Can I put an ig.me link in my Instagram bio?
Yes, and it is a reasonable use of the slot if messages are the action you want. It is redundant for people already viewing your profile, since the Message button is right there, so it earns its place mainly when the bio link gets shared or read elsewhere.
