To sell Notion templates on Instagram, show the template working in a Reel, then let a comment keyword send each person a private message with your checkout link. Instagram allows one private reply per comment, within 7 days, so that message carries the link to wherever the template is sold: Notion's Marketplace or your own store.
Instagram shows the template and passes the link along, and Notion or your store takes the payment. This page covers where to sell, what the post should show, how the DM delivers a template, when to ask for an email first, and what Notion's own rules say. Notion's help pages were read on 15 October 2026.
How to sell Notion templates: Marketplace or your own store
You can sell a Notion template through Notion's Marketplace or through a store you run, and both start with a published page that people can duplicate.
To publish, Notion's help center says to choose Share at the top of the page, open the Publish tab, select Publish, then turn on Duplicate as template. Anyone who opens the public page can then click Duplicate, choose a workspace and get their own copy, after they log in to Notion. Notion also advises that any content your template links to should sit inside the template, such as a subpage, because a copy can't reach anything outside it.
Notion's Marketplace needs a creator profile, and selling directly through it means joining a waitlist, being approved and onboarding with Stripe. Notion says review may take a few months. When Notion handles the payment, it is the merchant of record and charges 8% plus 40 cents per transaction. Prices are in US dollars, payouts are biweekly with a $20 minimum balance, and funds are held for 14 days to cover refunds. You can also list a template on Marketplace and link to a third-party payment site instead.
Your own store keeps the checkout where you control it. The fees differ by platform, and Shopify vs Stan Store compares what Stan Store, Shopify and Gumroad charge for digital products.
One detail from Notion's help center saves a headache: once a paid template is approved for sale directly through Marketplace, its Notion Site link redirects to the Marketplace checkout. If you also sell at another store, publish a separate copy at a different link for that store, so buyers there can duplicate it.
What should a Notion template Instagram post show?
Show the finished template in use, in the first seconds, and name the one word to comment.
A Reel suits a screen recording: the empty page, the same page filled in, one thing it saves you from doing. Instagram's Help Center (read 15 October 2026) says reels can run up to 20 minutes and that reels over 3 minutes won't be recommended to new audiences, so keep a clip meant for strangers under 3 minutes. A carousel suits a before and after: Instagram allows up to 20 photos and videos in one carousel.
Put the keyword in the last frame and the first line of the caption: "Comment PLANNER and I'll send you the template." Say the price in the post if the template is paid, so everyone who comments has already seen it.
Describe the template plainly. Notion's Marketplace terms say sellers must not make external statements that imply a Notion endorsement, certification, affiliation or partnership, and must follow Notion's brand and trademark guidelines. Read those guidelines before you put Notion's logo in a Reel.
How do you deliver a digital product by DM?
Send a link to the place where the person gets the template, in the private reply to their comment.
For a Notion template that link is either a checkout page or the public page where they click Duplicate. Meta's documentation (updated 28 September 2026) lists links among the things a message can contain. A private reply is one message per comment, within 7 days of the comment (Meta, updated 30 June 2026). People who don't follow you receive it in their Requests folder, so tell them in the caption to check their message requests. The private reply rule is the same for every product.
Files work differently from templates. If you also sell a PDF companion guide, how to send a PDF on Instagram covers the options, starting with a link.
Should you ask for an email before a free Notion template?
Ask for an email before a free template if you want to tell people about your paid ones, and skip the ask if you want the template to reach as many people as possible.
An email ask adds a step, and some people will stop there. In return you hold an address you can use when the next template is ready. A free starter template with a paid bundle behind it is a classic lead magnet, and collect emails from Instagram shows how to ask in the DM.
Marketplace has its own version. Notion's help center says a listing can set an email requirement to None, Optional or Require, and that you can download a CSV file of the emails people shared. It also asks sellers not to sell or share those addresses, to keep emails from being too frequent, and to stop when someone opts out.
How do you set up the keyword for a template?
In inDM, a comment-to-DM automation takes a few minutes: set the keyword, write the DM, add the link, and check the live preview before anything sends. You connect through Instagram's own login, so the password stays with Instagram, and the account needs to be a Business or Creator account. The setup guide walks through it.
Free includes unlimited keywords, so each template can have its own word, such as PLANNER for one and CLIENTS for another. The keyword ignores capital letters and fires when a word in the comment starts with it, so PLANNER also catches "planners". Keywords of one or two letters must be the whole word. Free also includes the email gate, which asks for an email address before the link, and a contacts list you can export as a CSV file. Growth adds up to 3 links in one DM, which suits a template, its bundle and a video walkthrough in one message. It is $4.99 for the first month, then $14.99 a month.
Where this stops working
- A DM sends a link, not the sale. The person still pays at the checkout, or duplicates the page in Notion. Nothing in the DM completes either step.
- It only reaches people who reached out first. A viewer who never commented or messaged can't be sent the template, so keep a link on your profile too. Instagram lets a profile hold up to 5 links (Help Center, read 15 October 2026).
- Marketplace decides what it lists. Notion says it may approve or reject submissions at its discretion, and its terms say it can change the requirements at any time.
- A Marketplace listing is not an ad for your own store. Notion's terms say a paid template may not be offered through Marketplace as a way to drive direct or off-Marketplace sales, with a discount code or otherwise. Read the terms before you link between the two.
- We have not tested every checkout page. Each link goes out through the automation's own address so it can count taps. Tap your own link on a phone before you launch.
- We found no earnings data. None of the Notion pages we read publish what template sellers earn, so this page quotes none.
The next time a template Reel gets comments, each person who asks gets the link while the template is still on their screen, and you keep your time for building the next one.
