inDM vs MobileMonkey

The company is now Customers.ai, and its Instagram tool is InstaChamp

MobileMonkey renamed itself Customers.ai in 2023 and now sells visitor identification and email tools. Its Instagram DM product, InstaChamp, is still documented. inDM does one job: Instagram DMs, with a free plan.

The honest answer

MobileMonkey is now Customers.ai: the company announced the new name on 10 March 2023, and mobilemonkey.com now redirects to customers.ai. Its main products today are website visitor identification, an AI audience tool and an email deliverability suite for stores that use Klaviyo. It still documents InstaChamp, an Instagram DM tool, and that is the part to compare with inDM.

If you run an online store on Shopify and Klaviyo and want to recognize your website visitors, Customers.ai is built for that, and inDM does none of it. If you want Instagram DM automation, both tools reply to comments, story activity and DMs. InstaChamp's page lists a Platinum plan at $19 a month, counted in sends and contacts. inDM's Free plan costs $0 with unlimited messages, every automation type and both gates, and Growth is $4.99 for the first month, then $14.99 a month.

InstaChamp's page was last changed in March 2025 by its own metadata and carries 'this week' prices, so confirm them inside the product. Figures and claims are as of 15 October 2026.

Why creators switch

Nothing to count on the free plan

InstaChamp's plans are counted in branding-free sends and contacts, with extra sends at $5 per 1,000 and extra contacts at $10 per 500. inDM's Free plan sends unlimited messages with every automation type, and Growth is $4.99 for the first month, then $14.99 a month.

One job, in one place

inDM is built for Instagram comments, story replies and keyword DMs, and for nothing else. There is no website tracking, email suite or ad tool to set up around it.

Both gates on the free plan

inDM's Free plan includes the follow gate and the email gate, with unlimited keywords on one Instagram account and no card. The Customers.ai pages we read on 15 October 2026 list email collection on Platinum and do not describe a follow gate.

The pricing math

inDM

Free forever: $0, no card, unlimited messages, every automation type, unlimited keywords, the follow and email gates, analytics, the unified inbox, contacts with CSV export, on one Instagram account. Growth adds your brand alone on your messages, up to 5 Instagram accounts, unlimited automations, up to 3 links in one DM, a follow-up message 30 minutes to 20 hours later, automations that wait for your next post, broadcasts to your audience, your whole team in one workspace, follow and email asks in your own words, and who clicks your links and where they are, at $4.99 for the first month, then $14.99 a month. Agency Lite is $39 a month for up to 15 Instagram accounts, and Agency Pro is $99 a month for 30, then $3 a month for each one after. inDM bills in USD at the same price wherever you are.

MobileMonkey (now Customers.ai)

Two price lists, read on customers.ai on 2026-10-15. For Instagram, the InstaChamp page shows a VIP Edition marked free this week, with 10 branding-free sends, 250 contacts, replies for up to 5 keywords and up to 5 story-mention replies, and a Platinum plan at $19 a month, shown at $9.95 a month this week, with 500 branding-free sends, 1,000 contacts, unlimited keywords and story-mention replies, phone number and email collection, and replies that follow the conversation. Extra sends are $5 per 1,000 and extra contacts are $10 per 500. The page's own metadata says it was last changed on 2025-03-18, so the this-week prices may be old. For everything else, customers.ai/pricing prices its visitor identification, audience and ad tracking products by how many Klaviyo profiles you have, offers a 7-day free trial with no card, and sends larger buyers to sales. No account-count limits are stated.

Read the shape, not the headline. InstaChamp's Platinum plan is $19 a month on the page, and once you pass the sends and contacts it lists, extra sends cost $5 per 1,000 and extra contacts $10 per 500. inDM's Free plan is $0 forever with unlimited messages, and Growth adds things to it rather than taking anything from it, at $4.99 for the first month, then $14.99 a month. Customers.ai's other products are priced on Klaviyo profile counts and are not comparable to anything inDM sells. Figures are as of 2026-10-15 for both tools, and the InstaChamp prices may be older than that.

Where MobileMonkey (now Customers.ai) is genuinely strong

Where MobileMonkey (now Customers.ai) is the better pick, plainly:

  • Knowing who visits your website. X-Ray, Alfred and Inboxer cover website visitor identification, an AI audience tool and an email deliverability suite for stores that use Klaviyo. inDM does none of this.
  • Channels beyond Instagram. The InstaChamp page covers Instagram and Facebook Messenger, and Customers.ai's help center documents autoresponders for Instagram Live and for story reactions. inDM is built for Instagram, with comment-to-DM, story replies and keyword DM replies.
  • A phone number ask inside the DM. The Platinum plan lists collecting phone numbers as well as emails. inDM's gates ask for a follow or for an email.

What happened to MobileMonkey?

MobileMonkey changed its name to Customers.ai and changed what it sells. The announcement post on customers.ai, written by its founder Larry Kim and dated 10 March 2023 by the page's metadata, says the company began with chat automation on Facebook Messenger. It says Meta controlled what the company could offer and could remove popular features at any time, that the business was not sustainable on that footing, and that the company moved to sales outreach automation, consumer targeting data and AI. It adds that the old name no longer fitted.

The address mobilemonkey.com now returns a permanent redirect to customers.ai, which we checked on 15 October 2026. One older address still answers: app.mobilemonkey.com, where the sign-up buttons on the InstaChamp page point.

What does Customers.ai sell now?

Customers.ai now sells website visitor identification, audience and email tools for online stores. Its main navigation, read on 15 October 2026, lists X-Ray for website visitor identification, Alfred as an AI audience tool, Inboxer for inbox deliverability, Meta CAPI for server-side ad tracking and a Klaviyo grader. Its home page is written for Shopify brands that use Klaviyo. Its pricing page prices these products by how many Klaviyo profiles you have, with a 7-day free trial and no card.

Instagram DM automation is not among those products. Links labelled DM Automation with InstaChamp and Social Media Autoresponders lead to customers.ai/instachamp.

Is there still a MobileMonkey Instagram tool?

Yes, under the name InstaChamp. Customers.ai's help center article on autoresponders, last modified on 9 April 2026 by its metadata, describes DM keyword replies, a greeting for people who message for the first time, a DM when someone comments on a post, with a public reply on Instagram, replies to story mentions and story reactions, and replies during an Instagram Live. The InstaChamp page says it runs on Meta's messaging connection for Instagram and calls itself Meta-approved. inDM is an approved Meta Tech Provider, which means Meta reviewed the app, not that Meta endorses it.

We did not sign up, so we cannot say how InstaChamp behaves today. The old multi-channel chatbot builder for Messenger, SMS and web chat does not appear among the products in the navigation or on the pricing page. The InstaChamp page's title and footer mention SMS, web chat and live chat, and we could not tell what they refer to, so if you built bots on the old builder, ask Customers.ai what happened to them.

What does InstaChamp cost?

InstaChamp's Platinum plan is $19 a month on its page, read on 15 October 2026, and a VIP Edition is marked free this week. The VIP Edition has 10 branding-free sends, 250 contacts, replies for up to 5 keywords and up to 5 story-mention replies. Platinum is shown at $9.95 a month this week, with 500 branding-free sends, 1,000 contacts, unlimited keywords and story-mention replies, replies that follow the conversation, and phone number and email collection. Extra sends are $5 per 1,000 and extra contacts are $10 per 500.

The page's own metadata says it was last changed on 18 March 2025, and its this-week wording has no date. Treat these prices as a starting point and confirm them in the product. The page does not say what a send that is not branding-free looks like.

MobileMonkey vs inDM: which should you choose?

Choose Customers.ai if you run a store on Shopify and Klaviyo and want visitor identification, audience tools or email deliverability, or if you want one vendor for Instagram and Facebook Messenger automation. Its pages are the ones to read for those.

Choose inDM if Instagram DMs are the whole job. The free plan has unlimited messages, every automation type, unlimited keywords, the follow gate and the email gate on one Instagram account, with a live preview of each DM while you build. When you need up to 5 accounts, your brand alone on your messages or a follow-up message hours later, Growth adds them at $4.99 for the first month, then $14.99 a month. The pricing page lists every difference. inDM has no AI-written replies.

Both tools sit under the same Instagram rules, including how fast Instagram lets messages go out, which is roughly 750 private replies per hour per account. The Instagram DM limits page explains what that means for a busy post.

Is inDM a good MobileMonkey alternative?

For Instagram DMs, yes, if you want comment-to-DM, story replies and keyword replies without counting sends or contacts. For what Customers.ai mostly sells today, no: inDM does not identify website visitors, filter email lists or track ads. If a Klaviyo store is where your sales happen, the Klaviyo and Instagram DM automation guide shows how the two fit together.

Where this comparison stops

We read Customers.ai's public pages and did not open an account, so anything inside the product is not covered. We could not verify whether the InstaChamp plans on its page are still sold at those prices, because the page's metadata dates from March 2025 and its this-week wording carries no date. We could not verify how many sends and contacts matter in practice, what a send that is not branding-free looks like, or what happened to the old chatbot builder. We did not test how either tool behaves day to day. We have used only Customers.ai's own account of the company's history, not what other websites say about it.

How we checked

On 15 October 2026 we opened mobilemonkey.com and mobilemonkey.com/pricing and confirmed that both redirect to customers.ai. We read customers.ai, customers.ai/pricing, customers.ai/instachamp, the founder's announcement post, one help center article on autoresponders and app.mobilemonkey.com/instachamp. Their pages change, so treat every figure above as a snapshot.

For another comparison with a company that changed what it sells, see ManyChat vs inDM. For a tool that counts something other than messages, see Zorcha vs inDM.

Good to know

Questions, answered plainly

Is MobileMonkey the same company as Customers.ai?

Yes. MobileMonkey renamed itself Customers.ai, and the founder's announcement post is dated 10 March 2023 by its page metadata. As of 15 October 2026, mobilemonkey.com redirects to customers.ai. The post says the company moved from Facebook Messenger chat automation to sales outreach, consumer data and AI.

Is InstaChamp free?

Its page offers a VIP Edition marked as a free gift this week, with 10 branding-free sends and 250 contacts, and a Platinum plan at $19 a month, shown at $9.95 a month this week. The page says it was last changed on 18 March 2025 by its metadata, so confirm both inside the product. inDM's Free plan is $0 forever with no card, unlimited messages and every automation type.

Can inDM replace MobileMonkey's Messenger and SMS chatbots?

No. inDM is built for Instagram, with comment-to-DM, story replies and keyword DM replies. It is not a Messenger, SMS or website chat tool. For Instagram DMs it can stand in for InstaChamp, and it has no AI-written replies.

Does Customers.ai still do Instagram DM automation?

Its help center article on autoresponders, last modified on 9 April 2026 by its metadata, still describes Instagram DM keyword replies, post comment replies, story mention and story reaction replies, and Instagram Live replies under the InstaChamp name. We read the pages on 15 October 2026 and did not open an account, so we cannot say how the product behaves today.

Can I switch from ManyChat or another tool?

Yes. Disconnect isn't even required first: connect your Instagram to inDM, rebuild your key automations (most creators have three or four that matter), preview, and set them live. Conversation history doesn't transfer between tools, no tool can import another's, so export your contacts from the old tool for your records. The switch guides walk through the order of operations.

Is Instagram DM automation allowed?

Yes. When it runs through Meta's official Instagram API on a professional account, and only messages people whose own action invited it, like commenting a keyword or replying to a story. That's exactly how inDM works. What breaks the rules is different: unofficial apps that ask for your password, scraping, purchased engagement, and cold outreach to people who never engaged.
