AI tools for Instagram fall into five jobs: ideas and captions, graphics, video, scheduling and replies. Instagram's own Meta AI and Edits app cover some of them inside the app. This page lists seven outside tools by job, with what each does and what it costs, read from each tool's own page on 15 October 2026.

Prices are in US dollars as each page showed them that day, before tax. We have not tested any tool, and we do not rank them.

Which Instagram AI tools are built into the app?

Instagram's own AI tools are Meta AI for ideas and drafts, the Edits video app, and a creator AI that can answer messages. Instagram for Creators suggests asking Meta AI for a shot list or a first draft of a pitch email, and says Meta AI is available in selected languages and countries only. Instagram's page on Edits describes a video app with a timeline, green screen, AI image animation, a caption generator and exports with no watermark. Which AI tools help with ideas and captions?

General chat assistants can brainstorm and draft from whatever you type or paste into them. Three have public pricing pages:

  • ChatGPT (OpenAI). OpenAI's pricing documentation lists Free at $0 a month, Go at $8, Plus at $20 and Pro from $100. Our prompts for ideas, hooks and captions show how to brief it.
  • Claude (Anthropic). Anthropic's pricing page lists a Free plan, Pro at $17 a month billed annually or $20 billed monthly, and Max from $100 a month. The Free plan includes chat on web, desktop and mobile, web search and memory across conversations.
  • Gemini (Google). Google's Gemini subscriptions page lists a Free plan at $0 with a Google account, Google AI Plus at $4.99 a month and Google AI Pro at $19.99 a month. The Free plan names image generation and editing, Gems and Deep Research.

Which AI tools help with graphics?

Adobe Express has a free plan for graphics and a paid plan with generative credits. Adobe's pricing page lists Free at $0 with basic editing tools, limited assets and 100,000 or more templates, and Premium at $9.99 a month with 250 generative credits a month. Adobe says its feature comparison reflects public information as of May 2026.

Which AI tools help with Reels and video?

Descript lets you edit video by editing a document, and Instagram's Edits covers editing on your phone. Descript's pricing page lists a Free plan with 60 media minutes a month and paid plans from $16 a month. It names Underlord, its AI co-editor, along with Remove Filler Words, Studio Sound and Create Clips among its AI features.

Which AI tools help with scheduling?

Buffer and Later both schedule Instagram posts, and both include AI writing help.

  • Buffer. Its pricing page lists a Free plan that connects up to 3 channels with 10 scheduled posts per channel, and Essentials at $5 a month per channel, or $60 billed yearly. An AI Assistant, described as help creating, refining and repurposing content, is listed on every plan. Buffer says its pricing was last updated in November 2025.
  • Later. Its pricing page has no free plan. Each plan starts with a 14-day free trial, and Starter is $18.75 a month billed yearly. Caption Writer, which generates captions for Instagram posts, and Ideas, which generates content pillars and ideas, are on every plan, powered by 5, 50 or 100 AI credits a month depending on the plan.

Can AI answer my Instagram messages?

Instagram has its own AI that answers messages for some professional accounts, and inDM does not write replies with AI. Instagram's Help Center says a professional account can build a creator AI from its Instagram content and turn on AI auto-replies for an audience it selects. The feature is being introduced gradually, works only in the mobile app, and labels each reply "AI · creator name". Instagram adds that an AI reply may be inaccurate.

How do I choose AI marketing tools for creators on a small budget?

Pick one job, start on a free plan, and pay only when a free limit blocks work you already do.

  1. Name the job that costs you the most time: writing, graphics, editing or scheduling.
  2. Read the free plan on the tool's own page. Descript's is 60 media minutes a month, Buffer's connects 3 channels, and Later has a 14-day trial instead.
  3. Read the price line twice. Later's $18.75 a month and Buffer's $60 are yearly-billing prices, so paying month by month can differ.
  4. Keep a person in charge of the final words. A content ideas list works better as a starting point than as a finished post.

Does Instagram penalise AI-made content?

Instagram's published rule targets unlabelled profiles that feature an AI-generated person, not creators who use AI tools to work faster. On 31 August 2026 Instagram for Creators said unlabelled profiles featuring an AI-generated person may see limits to their reach, and that creators who use AI tools as part of their creative process do not need the label. Its originality policy, extended to photos and carousels on 30 April 2026, targets accounts that re-upload other people's work. Meta also says people must use its disclosure tool for photorealistic video or realistic-sounding audio that was digitally created or altered (6 February 2024, updated 1 April 2025).

Where this stops working

  • No tests, no rankings. We did not test these tools, and we found no official source that ranks them. This is a sample by job, not the whole market, and a listing is not an endorsement.
  • Prices move. Each price is what the page showed on 15 October 2026. Buffer dates its own prices to November 2025.
  • Missing tools. We left out tools whose pages we could not read that day.
  • Their terms, not ours. Whatever you paste into a tool falls under that tool's terms and privacy settings, which we did not review.
  • Instagram decides what Instagram allows. A tool's page is not Instagram's rulebook, so check the Help Center.
