Not as a ChatGPT plugin: ChatGPT's plugin directory showed no ManyChat plugin on 27 October 2026, though ManyChat has AI inside its own product that answers fans. To manage comment-to-DM from a ChatGPT conversation instead, inDM is a plugin inside ChatGPT built for that job.

"Works with ChatGPT" can mean AI inside ManyChat that answers your fans, or ChatGPT running your DM tool for you. This page separates the two, sets out what ManyChat's AI does according to ManyChat's own help center, explains the connections that do exist between ManyChat and OpenAI, and shows how the inDM plugin covers the second meaning. Everything here was checked on 27 October 2026.

What does "ManyChat works with ChatGPT" mean?

It means one of two different things: AI inside ManyChat that talks to your fans, or ChatGPT managing your DM tool for you. They solve different problems, and a page that blurs them sends you to the wrong setup.

  • AI inside your DM tool. The tool itself writes or chooses replies to the people messaging you. This is what Manychat AI does.
  • ChatGPT managing your DM tool. You open ChatGPT, describe the automation you want, and ChatGPT builds it and reports on it in the DM tool. You are the one talking to ChatGPT. Your fans never do.

The first is a feature of a DM tool. The second is a plugin in ChatGPT that connects to a DM tool.

What AI does ManyChat have inside it?

ManyChat's AI is called Manychat AI, and it needs a paid plan with the Manychat AI feature, plus the Manychat AI add-on for its Replies, Comments and Goals features. This comes from ManyChat's help center article "Power up your chat marketing with Manychat AI", read on 27 October 2026.

The help center names these features:

  • AI Replies answers questions in DMs or comments, using a Knowledge library you write.
  • AI Comments replies to positive comments on posts and reels.
  • AI Goals steers a conversation toward a goal, such as sending a link or asking for a follow.
  • AI Step, Intention recognition, Flow Builder assistant and Text improver, which sit alongside them.

ManyChat's article also states the limits. Replies, Comments and Goals are currently available only for the Instagram channel and are marked beta. AI stops waiting for a reply after 10 hours. AI Comments works on Reels and posts, not on Stories or Lives. A single Knowledge text entry holds up to 250k characters.

How do you connect ManyChat to ChatGPT?

You cannot connect ManyChat to ChatGPT as a plugin, because ChatGPT's plugin directory showed no ManyChat plugin when we searched it on 27 October 2026. We searched for "manychat" from a signed-in ChatGPT account and the directory returned "No plugins found". A listing could be added later, so treat this as a dated check and not a permanent fact.

What does exist are connectors from automation platforms. Zapier and Make both list a ManyChat to OpenAI connection on their own pages, which are the connector vendors' own descriptions:

  • Zapier: ManyChat and OpenAI integrations.
  • Make: OpenAI and ManyChat integrations.

These link ManyChat to OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT. They are a way to pass information between two accounts, not a way to run your ManyChat from a ChatGPT conversation. We have not tested either connector. For how this route works with other tools, see automating Instagram DMs with Zapier, Make and n8n.

Can ChatGPT manage comment-to-DM automations?

Yes, ChatGPT can manage comment-to-DM automations through the inDM plugin, which you add from ChatGPT's own plugin directory. The inDM plugin turns a request like "DM my link when someone comments LINK on my latest reel" into an automation on your inDM account, saved as a draft until you set it live. The automation runs on inDM, not in ChatGPT, so it keeps answering comments whether or not the chat is open. What the automation does is explained in comment-to-DM.

To install it:

  1. In ChatGPT's left sidebar, open Plugins.
  2. Type "inDM" into Search plugins and open the inDM result.
  3. Press Install plugin.
  4. Sign in with your inDM account. A screen titled "ChatGPT wants to connect to your inDM" lists what the connection can see and do, and what it can never do, before you approve.
  5. Back in ChatGPT, press Try in chat, or pick one of the starter prompts.

The listing's starter prompts include "Draft an Instagram automation that DMs my link when someone comments LINK" and "Why did nobody get the DM from my latest reel?". Drafting works before you sign in to anything. To go further, you need an inDM account with an Instagram professional account connected inside inDM, through Meta's own login, and ChatGPT never sees your Instagram password. The inDM plugin works on inDM's free plan.

Once connected, the inDM plugin can list your recent posts and reels, create and edit an automation as a draft, set it live or pause it, report how many times it triggered and how many messages were sent, delivered and failed as totals, and explain why an account went quiet. It can also look up one person by exact handle: whether they triggered the automation and whether the message reached them.

Does inDM use AI to write replies to fans?

No, inDM does not use AI to write replies to fans. inDM sends exactly the message you approved to each person who comments your keyword. ChatGPT can help you draft that message in the conversation, and you read it before it is saved.

That is a real difference from Manychat AI Replies, which answers questions from a Knowledge library. It is a difference in design, not a verdict on either tool:

  • If you want AI to answer open questions from fans, that is what ManyChat's AI features describe, on a paid plan with the add-on and in beta.
  • If you want one approved message delivered to everyone who comments a keyword, and you want to manage it by talking to ChatGPT, that is what the inDM plugin does.

If you are weighing the two tools more broadly, here are the ManyChat alternatives. For a separate question, whether ManyChat is safe for your Instagram account, see is ManyChat safe.

Where this stops working

  • The ManyChat AI details are ManyChat's own words. They come from its help center on 27 October 2026, the features are marked beta, and we have not tested them.
  • A directory search is a snapshot. ChatGPT's plugin directory showed no ManyChat plugin on 27 October 2026. If one appears later, this page will be out of date on that point.
  • The inDM plugin cannot answer your fans' questions. It does not write replies, and it cannot send a DM, a broadcast or a public reply through ChatGPT. Only an automation you have set live sends anything, and only to people who commented.
  • It cannot read your inbox. It sees no message content, cannot browse or export your followers, and cannot touch your billing.
  • Instagram's rules apply to every tool. A comment earns one private reply, sent within 7 days. Every message after that needs the person to reply first, inside the 24-hour messaging window.
  • Personal accounts are out. Official comment-to-DM works on professional accounts, Business or Creator, only.

Decide first whether you want AI talking to your fans or ChatGPT helping you run your automations, because the tools you shortlist depend on that answer.
