The Instagram reel payout is not one program, and Instagram publishes no per-view rate. A reel can earn through Gifts, which pay $0.01 for every Star a viewer sends, or through Bonuses, which are invitation only. Brands and affiliate partners can also pay you for reels. Instagram pays Gifts around the 21st of the following month.
Every rule below comes from Instagram's Help Center, Instagram for Creators or Meta's newsroom, read on 14 October 2026. Instagram changes these pages without notice, so treat the date as a stamp, not a promise.
Can you get paid from Instagram reels?
Yes, but Instagram itself pays for reels only through Gifts and invitation-only Bonuses. Everything else that pays for a reel comes from someone else: a brand that sponsors it, an affiliate partner whose product you tag, or your own offer. This table sets out who pays and what each route asks:
| Route | Who pays you | What it asks |
|---|---|---|
| Gifts | Instagram, from Stars viewers send on your reels | 500 followers, a professional account, age 18 or over, a payout account, one of 49 listed countries |
| Bonuses | Invitation only. The reel bonus asks for 5 million views over the previous three calendar months, in the US and South Korea | |
| Brand deals | The brand | The paid partnership label. Instagram publishes no follower number |
| Affiliate product tags | The affiliate partner | A public professional account, more than 1,000 followers, a supported market |
Instagram Subscriptions is a separate tool that asks for 10,000 followers, and the full list of monetization tools has the rest.
What is the Instagram Reels payout per view?
Instagram publishes no per-view rate, so a figure you see quoted did not come from Instagram's own pages. The Help Center and Instagram for Creators pages we read state no rate per view, per play or per thousand views, and no typical income.
What Instagram does publish is narrower:
- Gifts: $0.01 for every Star you receive, so 100 Stars is $1. That is a rate per Star, not per view.
- Bonuses: Instagram for Creators says the more bonus plays your content receives, the more you earn. It states no rate. At this time, replays are excluded from bonus plays.
How do Instagram Bonuses work for reels?
Instagram is testing two invitation-only bonuses, one for reels and one for posts, and you cannot apply for either. If you are invited, the invitation appears on your professional dashboard. You accept it, finish the onboarding steps, and public reels you share then count toward the bonus.
- What counts. Instagram says it automatically counts up to 150 pieces of content, from the week you activate until the bonus opportunity ends.
- The reel bonus. You need at least 5 million views within the previous three consecutive calendar months when Instagram checks, and Instagram for Creators says the reel bonus is available only in the US and South Korea.
- Everyone invited must also be 18 or over, hold a professional account, follow Instagram's Partner and Content Monetization Policies, and, the page says, be located and have tax status in Japan, South Korea or the US.
- The post bonus. It covers carousels and single-image posts, with minimum monthly views by region from 500,000 to 5 million. That list names more places than the general rule above, so your own dashboard is the final word.
- Selection. Even with the minimums met, not every eligible creator is chosen. Instagram's Help Center says it will announce when it is ready to offer public eligibility, and that it may end a bonus program.
Bonus earnings are paid around the 7th and 21st of each month, for two-week periods in the previous month, and you must add a payout account before the bonus period ends.
How do Instagram Gifts pay for reels?
Gifts pay a monthly revenue share of $0.01 for every Star viewers send on your reels. Instagram's Help Center sets these rules for Gifts:
- A professional account, age 18 or over, and at least 500 followers.
- Agreement to the Gifts creator terms, and a country on Instagram's list of 49.
- A payout account. Without one you can see who sent a gift but you cannot receive earnings from it.
- Collaborative posts and accounts that mainly post content focused on children cannot earn from Gifts.
Instagram and the app store take their shares when a viewer buys Stars, and the app store's fee is usually 30%. The $0.01 is what you receive per Star. To see your earnings, tap Professional dashboard, then Gifts under Your tools.
How do you get paid on Instagram Reels?
Check which tools your account has, set up a payout account early, then wait for the payout date.
- Open Professional dashboard. Tools you are eligible for appear there, and a Bonuses invitation would show there too.
- Set up a payout account. Without one, Instagram says you can earn up to $500 per tool and $1,500 across three tools, and you forfeit the earnings if you have not added one within six months.
- Know the dates. Gifts, Subscriptions and Badges earnings are paid around the 21st for the previous month. Bonuses are paid around the 7th and 21st.
- Reach the minimum. In the US you are paid once your balance reaches $5. Elsewhere the minimum is $25, or $100 for a wire transfer, and a smaller balance rolls over to the next payout.
- Expect a pause after changes. Updating payout details places the account on a 5-day hold, so Instagram says to make changes at least ten days before a payment date.
What stops a reel from earning?
Instagram's Content Monetization Policies rule out some formats and some content, whatever your follower count. The formats that cannot be monetized are static videos, slideshows of static images, looping videos, text montages and content that already carries embedded ads. Unoriginal content, reproduced without meaningful enhancement such as commentary or creative editing, cannot be monetized either.
Separately, Instagram's Partner Monetization Policies say you may lose the ability to monetize if your audience significantly consists of fake likes, follows or views. The policy page also lists prohibited behaviors and restricted categories, so read it before you rely on a payout.
Which other money can a reel bring in?
A reel can carry a sponsorship, an affiliate product tag or a link to something you sell, and each of those is paid by someone other than Instagram.
- Brand deals. Instagram's paid partnership label works in Reels. Brands pay creators directly, and Instagram's Help Center says creators whose content is used in partnership ads are paid off the platform. How to get brand deals on Instagram covers the route.
- Affiliate tags. You can add up to 30 products to a Reel, and Instagram affiliate marketing explains who can use the affiliate tool.
- Your own offer. Selling a service, a template or a course needs no Instagram program. How many followers you need to make money on Instagram compares the routes by size.
Where this stops working
- No rate, no typical income. The pages we read give neither, so we give none.
- Bonuses cannot be applied for. Instagram can end them, and its Help Center and its creators page differ on some details, so rely on the invitation in your dashboard.
- The two payout pages differ. Instagram for Creators says Gifts pay out once your balance reaches $25, while the payout Help article says $5 in the US and $25 elsewhere. We used the Help article.
- Eligible is not available. The pages say tools may not have reached your account yet.
- Earlier programs are unconfirmed. Meta's newsroom post of 9 May 2023 said Meta would begin testing a payout based on reel plays on Instagram. We found no Help Center or creators page that lists it as a tool you can join today.
- Facebook is separate. Meta's post of 2 October 2024 describes Facebook Content Monetization, which pays for Reels on Facebook. It does not pay for Instagram reels, and we did not cover its rules.
- Tax and law sit outside this page. Payout accounts ask for tax details, and the rules depend on where you live.
Now you can see which payouts are open at your size and which money has to come from a brand, a partner or your own offer. For that last one, inDM's comment-to-DM reply can send your link, product or media kit to each person who comments on a reel, and the Free plan includes it. See what comment-to-DM is.
