The Target creator program is three programs run on three platforms: Target Partners, an affiliate program you apply to through Impact; Club Target, a points and challenges program on Duel that asks for 500 or more followers; and Target Ambassadors, a program inside LTK for established creators there. Partners and Club Target are aimed at the United States.
Everything below comes from Target's own pages, read on 13 October 2026: the Partners and Club Target sites with their terms, and Target's corporate announcement of 6 May 2026. Target can change any of it without notice, so treat the date as a stamp, not a promise.
Which of Target's programs can you join?
You can apply to Partners and Club Target today, and Target publishes no application for Ambassadors. The three differ on who they are for, how you get in and when money starts:
| Target Partners | Club Target | Target Ambassadors | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Runs on | Impact | Duel | LTK |
| Built for | Website owners, bloggers and creators with family-friendly content for mainly US readers | US residents aged 18 or older with a public profile | Established creators already on LTK |
| Follower minimum | None stated | 500 on Instagram or TikTok | None stated |
| How you get in | Apply | Apply, reviewed by hand | No public application |
| Commission | From the first qualifying sale | From tier 7, not backdated | Enhanced rates and bonuses |
Target's announcement of 6 May 2026 calls Club Target a pilot. The three are separate programs with separate sign-ups, not steps of one ladder.
What is the Target affiliate program?
The Target affiliate program is Target Partners, run through Impact at partners.target.com. Target's FAQ says any website owner, blogger or creator network that runs a family-friendly website and has mainly US-based viewership can apply, and that it costs nothing to join. The terms define your site to include your social media pages, which is how an Instagram-first creator fits.
Target also accepts partners from other countries, as long as Impact supports your country of residence and your content is aimed at US shoppers. Target decides every application at its own discretion, and if you are turned down the terms say you can reapply at any time.
How to become a Target creator in each route
The route depends on which program you want, and only the first two have an application:
- Target Partners. Select Apply Now at partners.target.com to start the application, which runs through Impact. List every place you will post links, because the terms say each one must appear in your approved affiliate profile. The terms also say you may need to submit a W-9 before you can be paid.
- Club Target. Apply at club.target.com. The form says you need a public profile and 500 or more followers on Instagram and/or TikTok to be accepted, and you confirm you do not work for Target. Target's FAQ says applications are reviewed manually.
- Target Ambassadors. There is no public application. Target's announcement says the program rewards top-performing creators on LTK and lives inside the LTK Creator app, so the only route Target describes is strong Target sales on LTK.
What does Target pay creators?
Target Partners pays a percentage of each qualifying sale, Club Target pays in points and perks first, and Ambassadors pays enhanced commission that Target has not put a number on.
Target Partners. The Partners home page says you can earn up to 8%. The FAQ puts Target's EPC, the average payout per 100 clicks, at about $3 to $4. One is a ceiling and the other an average. The terms say your rate and exclusions are set in your own contract and point to a rate page at affiliate.target.com, an address that no longer resolves, so this page quotes no category rates. Commission is worked out on the net price, meaning the sale price less any coupon or discount.
The FAQ describes a 7-day cookie window with last-click credit, and says you earn on every order that shopper places inside the window, not only the first. A sale does not pay if the shopper has cookies switched off, or comes back through another affiliate's link or another marketing link such as paid search, social or email. Payment is monthly unless your contract says otherwise, comes only after Target has received the shopper's payment, and a returned item is taken off your next monthly payment.
Club Target. You earn 1 point for every $1 of sales through your link or storefront inside a 3-day cookie window, plus points for challenges and for reach and engagement goals. The scope of work says 100 points unlock tier 2. Points are not redeemable for cash and are forfeited if your account ends. Commission starts at Target Tastemaker 7, applies only to purchases made after you reach it, and is not backdated. From there it pays for up to three actions per click, and clicking a different link later resets the 3-day window. Below tier 7, Club Target's FAQ names Target gift cards and program perks, and Target's announcement adds features on Target's social channels.
Target Ambassadors. Target describes tiers based on commissionable Target sales, with increased commission rates and monthly bonuses for eligible content. Target publishes no percentages, bonus sizes or thresholds.
What rules do Target creators have to follow?
Disclose every link at the start of the post, use only Target-issued links, and keep other brands out of Club Target content. The detail sits in the two sets of terms and in Club Target's FAQ:
- Disclosure on Partners. The terms ask for #PaidLink and #TargetPartner in the first two lines of a post, and next to the link when it sits in a photo or video. The other option the terms give is a short sentence at the start saying the link may be commission eligible.
- Disclosure on Club Target. Put #TargetPartner first in the caption or on-screen text, and include #ClubTarget as well. In Stories it repeats, with every frame that carries a Target link or product. A disclosure only in your bio, at the end of a caption or in Instagram's paid partnership tool alone does not count.
- Links. Only links generated through Impact or Duel are tracked. The terms bar manipulating a link, including redirecting it to hide or change its original source, and bar using your link as the destination of a paid ad. Club Target's FAQ says not to buy through your own affiliate link.
- Content. Club Target's scope of work bars references to other brands' products and expects a post within 30 days of any gifted product. Target can reuse content you submit or tag with #ClubTarget in its own marketing, and can end accounts inactive for three months or more.
Can I send Target links by DM with comment automation?
Instagram allows the mechanics in general: someone comments a keyword, and the automation replies in public and sends one private message with a link, within 7 days of the comment. Whether Target's rules cover a link sent that way is not stated, because neither set of terms mentions direct messages. Four things to settle first:
- Whether a DM counts. The Partners terms cover links from your site or other digital location, such as your social media pages. Club Target's terms cover links from your social media pages or other online platforms under your control. A direct message is neither named nor excluded.
- Whether a rewritten link is allowed. inDM swaps each link it delivers for an address on its own redirect domain, which is how it counts taps, then forwards the person on (how that tracking works). Both sets of terms bar redirecting a link to hide or manipulate its original source, and say only links from Impact or Duel are tracked. A tracked redirect is not obviously what that clause means, and we have not asked Target.
- Disclosure comes first in the message. The Partners terms ask for it at the beginning of the messaging that contains a link to Target, and Club Target asks for #TargetPartner first. Open the DM with it, and keep it on the public post as well.
- Follow and email asks. Neither set of terms mentions them. Until Target answers, send the link in the first message and leave the follow and email gates off, so the disclosure and the link sit together.
The people to ask are named in the terms. Section 21.9 of the Partners terms tells you to write to targetpartners@target.com or targetcreators@target.com for written approval of a tool or other marketing device, and Club Target members can write to clubtarget@target.com. If the answer is yes, setup is ordinary: follow the comment-to-DM setup guide, pick a plain keyword with the keyword guide and see how affiliate creators run it. The same questions come up for the Walmart Creator program and ShopMy. If the answer is no, your profile link and a public post that says where to find the product still work.
Where this stops working
- Rates are not public. The Partners rate page no longer loads, and Club Target and Ambassadors publish no commission percentages, so no rate is quoted here.
- No review times. Target publishes no wait or acceptance rate for either application.
- DMs are unanswered. Nothing Target has published addresses links sent by direct message, and nothing here is Target's answer.
- The terms move. Target can change either set at any time. The Partners terms show no revision date, and the Club Target terms are a PDF labelled April 2026.
- United States first. Club Target needs a US base, and Partners expects content aimed at US shoppers. We found no country rule published for Ambassadors.
- Ambassadors sits behind LTK. We read only Target's side of that program.
Knowing which of the three programs you are applying to tells you what the first sale will earn, and which four questions to put to Target before a Target link goes into a DM.
