What "unlimited" is measuring
InstantDM sells unlimited automation. Their own comparison table puts a number on it — and that number is Meta's, not theirs. Here's what it means for your account.
InstantDM is a close competitor on shape: Instagram-first, flat monthly pricing, a free-forever tier, and the same comment-to-DM and follow-for-link mechanics. If you are choosing between us, you are choosing between two tools that do broadly the same job.
Two things are worth getting exactly right before you decide.
The price. Their pricing page loads with the yearly toggle already selected, so the $9.99 you see first is the annual-billing rate. Month-to-month, Legend Pro is $12 and Trendsetter is $29.99. inDM's $9.99 is a month-to-month price with no annual commitment, which makes us the cheaper monthly plan rather than the matched one.
The word "unlimited". Legend Pro is marketed as unlimited automation, and their own comparison table qualifies it as "Unlimited (750/hr)". That 750 an hour is not an InstantDM limit — it is Meta's published ceiling on private replies, the same one every tool on the official API lives under. It is a fair thing to advertise. It is just worth understanding that it describes the platform, not the product, and that no tool can raise it.

inDM Growth is $9.99 a month, month-to-month, for 10,000 messages. InstantDM's $9.99 is the yearly-billing rate; their month-to-month Legend Pro is $12. Compare like for like before deciding which is cheaper.
A free plan that is twice the size
InstantDM's free-forever tier is 500 DMs a month. inDM's is 1,000 — with every automation type, unlimited automations and keywords, the follow gate, analytics and the unified inbox included, and no card.
Limits we document rather than market
Instagram's own ceiling is roughly 750 private replies an hour, and it applies to every tool on the official API. We publish what that means for your account instead of describing it as a product feature.

Free forever: $0, no card, 1,000 messages a month, with every automation type, unlimited automations and keywords, the follow gate, full analytics and the unified inbox. Then Growth at $9.99 a month for 10,000 DMs, or $19.99 for 30,000 with $1 per extra 1,000 above. These are month-to-month prices — there is no annual commitment and no annual discount to reconcile. No account cap. Switch the Powered by inDM badge on for an automation and that automation stops counting. inDM bills in USD — $9.99 a month wherever you are.

Compare the same billing term or the comparison is meaningless. Month-to-month: inDM Growth $9.99 against InstantDM Legend Pro $12 — we are cheaper. Annual: their $9.99 against our $9.99 — level, except ours carries no annual commitment because we do not sell one. On the free tiers: 1,000 messages a month here against 500 there. On allowance shape, theirs is "unlimited" bounded by Meta's 750/hr and ours is a stated 10,000 or 30,000 a month; which is better depends entirely on whether your sending is spiky or steady. Where InstantDM is genuinely strong
Where InstantDM is the stronger pick:
- API access and webhooks. Their Trendsetter tier ships an API with send-message and comment endpoints. inDM does not publish one, so if you want to wire automations into your own stack, they can and we cannot.
- An unlimited-shaped allowance. If your sending is extremely spiky — one enormous month, then quiet — a plan bounded only by Meta's hourly ceiling may suit you better than our stated monthly allowance.
- Viral-mode tooling. They market dedicated safety queues and a viral-mode handler as named features. We pace sends under the same Meta limits, but we do not sell it as a distinct product surface.
One thing to check yourself rather than take from either of us: their blog states Instagram allows 5,000 DMs per hour. That conflicts with the roughly 750 private replies per hour we sourced directly from Meta's own documentation. We are confident in our number and we have shown our source — but it is their claim, and you should verify both.
What is InstantDM?
InstantDM is an Instagram-first DM automation tool. It runs comment-to-DM, Reels and Story automation, follow-for-link gating and email collection, on flat monthly tiers with a free-forever plan underneath. In shape it is one of the closest competitors to inDM in this set: same platform, same core mechanics, same flat-plan instinct.
Which means the comparison comes down to details — and two of them are easy to get wrong.
The price, compared on the same terms
Their pricing page loads with the yearly toggle already selected. That is not a trick; plenty of sites default to the discounted view. But it means the first numbers you see — $9.99 and $24.99 — are annual-billing rates, not monthly ones.

Yearly billing gives two months free, which is what reconciles $12 to $9.99 and $29.99 to $24.99 exactly.
inDM Growth is $9.99 a month, month-to-month, for 10,000 messages. We do not sell an annual plan, so there is no discounted rate to compare against — the price on the page is the price. Against their month-to-month $12, we are cheaper. Against their annual $9.99, we are level, without asking for a year up front.

What "unlimited" is actually measuring
Legend Pro is marketed as Unlimited Automation. Their own comparison table qualifies it: "Unlimited (750/hr)".
That number is worth understanding, because it is not really InstantDM's.
Instagram's Graph API bounds private replies at roughly 750 per hour per account. It is Meta's ceiling, it applies to every tool built on the official API, and no product can lift it — we documented it from Meta's own docs on 2026-08-05. So "unlimited, 750/hr" is an accurate description of what the platform permits, restated as a plan feature.
There is nothing wrong with advertising it that way. But it does mean the practical ceiling on a Legend Pro account and on an inDM account is identical, because both are the same Meta ceiling. What differs is how each tool describes it — and whether you would rather buy an allowance you can count or an "unlimited" that resolves to a platform constant.
Worth flagging one conflict so you can check it yourself: their blog states Instagram allows 5,000 DMs per hour. That does not match the roughly 750 private replies per hour in Meta's documentation. We have shown our source; theirs is their own. Verify before you plan capacity on either number.
How inDM differs
One meter, no feature gates. The free plan is the whole product at 1,000 messages a month — every automation type, unlimited automations and keywords, the follow gate, analytics, inbox and contacts, no card. Growth adds volume, not features.
Connected accounts are never capped. A link delivery spends two messages, the invite and the link; follow-gate prompts are never billed at all, because asking someone to follow you is not a delivery. And the Powered by inDM badge is an option that makes an automation's messages stop counting — opt-in, per automation, off unless you choose it.
Which should you pick?
Choose InstantDM if you want API access and webhooks, if your sending is spiky enough that an unlimited-shaped plan beats a stated allowance, or if you are happy to commit annually at $9.99.
Choose inDM if you want a $9.99 month-to-month price with no annual commitment, twice the free-tier volume, no cap on connected accounts, and an allowance you can actually count rather than one bounded by a platform limit.

Can I switch from ManyChat or another tool?
Yes. Disconnect isn't even required first — connect your Instagram to inDM, rebuild your key automations (most creators have three or four that matter), preview, and set them live. Conversation history doesn't transfer between tools — no tool can import another's — so export your contacts from the old tool for your records. Is Instagram DM automation allowed?
Yes — when it runs through Meta's official Instagram API on a professional account, and only messages people whose own action invited it, like commenting a keyword or replying to a story.
