The Instagram trends 2026 has produced, counting only what Instagram and Meta announced, are viewers choosing their own topics, original photos and carousels getting credit, shoppable reels, Instants, subscriptions, AI effects and labels, and a carousel editor in Edits. Each is dated below with its source, read on 13 October 2026.

This page lists announcements, not predictions. Every item carries a date and a link to the page that announced it, and the last section says what we could not confirm.

What Instagram updates came out in 2026, month by month?

  • 16 January. Meta AI translation, dubbing and lip-sync for reels rolled out to Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Marathi and Kannada, added to English, Hindi, Portuguese and Spanish. Creators can turn it on or off and review translations before they publish. (Instagram for Creators)
  • 24 February. Instagram for TV, which began as a test on Amazon Fire TV on 16 December 2025, became available on Google TV devices in the US. (Instagram)
  • 24 March. An Add products option for reels lets you tag a product from a business's Meta catalogue or paste a link to a single item, including affiliate links, with up to 30 products on one reel. It started in the US, Brazil, India, Indonesia and Thailand. (Instagram for Creators)
  • 15 April. Your Algorithm, where people see and adjust the topics behind their recommendations, grew from Reels to Explore. On 10 June it reached Feed, Reels and Explore, in English worldwide. (Instagram)
  • 30 April. Instagram extended its originality rules from reels to photos and carousels. Accounts that mainly post unoriginal photos or carousels are no longer shown where Instagram recommends content, and Instagram said 75% of recommendations in the US now come from original posts. (Instagram for Creators)
  • 13 May. Instants arrived: photos shared with Close Friends or followers you follow back, which disappear once opened and cannot be viewed after 24 hours. (Meta newsroom)
  • 2 June. Teen Accounts' 13+ content settings expanded globally across Instagram, Facebook and Messenger. (Meta newsroom)
  • 4 June. Instagram Plus launched as a paid subscription, with features such as 48-hour stories, counts of how often your stories were rewatched, and up to 6 pinned posts. (Instagram)
  • 22 June. Instagram for TV reached Samsung Smart TVs in the US, 2020 models and newer, and Instagram said it was testing a home for horizontal videos. (Instagram)
  • 30 June. Stories gained spin view and multi-camera formats for footage from Meta AI glasses, plus Expand, Audio and Speed editing tools. (Instagram for Creators)
  • 7 July. More than 30 new AI effects arrived in Stories, in the US only. Instagram also said you can stop others from creating with your Instagram content using AI features at Meta, under Settings and then Sharing and Reuse on mobile, and on 10 July it withdrew a feature that let people @-mention public accounts in Meta AI image prompts. (Instagram)
  • 31 August. The AI creator label became the AI-generated profile label. Instagram said unlabelled profiles that feature an AI-generated person can have their reach limited, and that creators who only use AI tools in their process do not need the label. (Instagram for Creators)
  • 15 September. Meta One plans launched. For creators and businesses, Essential starts at $14.99 a month and Advanced at $49.99, with features such as a link page, links in posts and reels, and scheduling further ahead. Instagram Plus is $3.99 a month in the same post. (Meta newsroom, Instagram for Creators)
  • 7 October. Edits can now make carousels, on iOS first with Android coming soon, with layouts, cutout stickers, saved fonts, styles and colors, and posting straight to Instagram. (Instagram for Creators)

What are the new Instagram features in 2026 that change how you work?

Four groups, by what you are trying to do.

Reach. Your Algorithm, the originality rules and the AI-generated profile label all concern who gets recommended. Our reading, which is not Instagram's, is that a page easy to describe by topic is easier for a viewer to ask for, and our page on choosing a niche goes further. Instagram's originality post and its AI-label post both point to Account Status in your settings, where you can check for limits on your reach.

Create. Instants, the AI effects in Stories, the glasses formats and the Edits carousel editor are Instagram's own tools for making things. None is required. Our page on Instants covers who sees them.

Earn. Shoppable reels and Meta One are the money-side changes. Instagram's creators post says the Advanced plan allows links in four posts and four reels a month. Our page on Instagram subscriptions separates the plans. A link can also travel by DM: inDM sends it when someone comments your keyword, and the free comment-to-DM page explains what that includes.

Watch. Instagram for TV and the 13+ content settings concern where your content is watched and what teens are shown. Instagram said the TV work is early, and that longer-form, episodic and live formats are things it is exploring, not shipping.

Instagram's announcements do not list trends, and what is trending changes faster than a newsroom post. Instagram's creator FAQ says it detects trends using factors such as audio and hashtags, and considers their popularity on Reels when it decides how to rank and deliver content tied to those trends.

To see what is trending for you today, open the Your Algorithm screen, which shows a summary of the topics Instagram thinks you care about, and look at your own Reels and Explore. A trend described on a blog is not an Instagram announcement, so none appears in the timeline above. For what Instagram says ranks Feed, Reels and Stories, see Instagram algorithm 2026.

What should a creator do with this list?

Three things, in order. First, check what your own account and country have, because many items started in one market or one language. Second, pick the one change that matches your current goal and ignore the rest. Third, keep making original work: since 30 April, Instagram's originality rules cover photos and carousels as well as reels.

Where this stops working

  • Announcements only. We list what Instagram and Meta published. We have no data from agencies and we make no predictions.
  • Rollouts differ. Your Algorithm is described as available in English, the AI effects as US only, and Add products began in five markets. Meta says Meta One plans, benefits, pricing and availability vary by region, app and account.
  • Prices are as of 15 September 2026. They can change, and Meta says to start the subscription process to see what your account gets.
  • Hashtags are not in the timeline. Instagram's Help Center says you can use up to 5 tags on a post, but we found no Instagram announcement that dates the change.
  • We could not read posts made only on Instagram or Threads. Statements that appeared only there are not included.
  • We did not test each feature in a live app. We read the announcements.

You leave with a dated list of what changed in 2026, a way to sort it by your own goal, and the pages to open before relying on any one item.
