Stan Store is a creator storefront for courses, digital products and bookings that includes an Instagram auto DM feature, Stan AutoDM, in its $29 a month Creator plan. inDM is a DM automation tool and nothing else: it sends the DMs, can ask for an email inside them, and sells nothing. Its Free plan is $0.
If you want a store, Stan is the one: checkout, courses, bookings and memberships on one page, with AutoDM already included. If you already pay for Stan, its pages say AutoDM adds no extra charge.
If you only need the DMs, or you want the email asked inside the DM, inDM's Free plan covers it with no card. inDM has no AI-written replies, no store and no checkout.
Stan says other DM apps must be disconnected before AutoDM fires, so the two work together only with AutoDM switched off. Figures here are as of 2026-10-23, so open Stan's pages before you decide.
Why creators switch
The address is asked inside the DM
inDM's email gate asks for the address in the DM before it sends your link, on every plan. Stan's AutoDM sends a link, and Stan's guide to building an email list points that link at a Stan page where name and email are required fields.
A plan that stays free
inDM's Free plan is $0 forever with no card, so the DMs cost nothing if one Instagram account is all you run. Stan's pages list no free plan: Creator is $29 a month, and a 14-day free trial is offered.
See the message before it sends
inDM attaches each automation to a real post, reel or story and shows the exact DM, buttons and link card on screen while you build. Stan's help center says to test an AutoDM by commenting from Instagram after you publish it.

The pricing math
Free forever: $0, no card, unlimited messages, every automation type, unlimited keywords, the email gate, analytics, the unified inbox, contacts with CSV export, on one Instagram account. Growth adds your brand alone on your messages, up to 5 Instagram accounts, unlimited automations, up to 3 links in one DM, a follow-up message 30 minutes to 20 hours later, automations that wait for your next post, broadcasts to your audience, your whole team in one workspace, follow and email asks in your own words, and who clicks your links and where they are, at $14.99 a month after 7 days free. Cancel anytime. Agency Lite is $39 a month for up to 15 Instagram accounts, and Agency Pro is $99 a month for 30, then $3 a month for each one after. inDM bills in USD.
Two plans, read on stan.store and help.stan.store on 2026-10-23. Creator is $29 a month or $300 a year, and includes the storefront, booking tools, an unlimited course builder, subscriptions, lead magnets and email collection, community features and Stan AutoDM. Creator Pro is $99 a month or $948 a year, and adds discount codes, limited-quantity offers, upsells and order bumps, dynamic pricing and payment plans with Stan Payments, Afterpay and Klarna, funnels, affiliate management, email broadcasts and email flows, and pixel tracking. Stan says it charges 0% transaction fees and you pay the standard Stripe or PayPal processing fee. There is no free plan, and Stan's home page and pricing guide offer a 14-day free trial. Stan's blog says AutoDM has no per-message fee and no usage cap. Each Stan Store needs its own subscription.
These two bills pay for different things. Stan's $29 a month pays for a store, and its pages say AutoDM comes with it at no extra charge. inDM's Free plan pays for the DMs alone, at $0. If you already sell on Stan, AutoDM adds nothing to your bill and keeps the DMs next to the store. If the DMs are all you need, inDM's Free plan costs nothing, and the store is the part you would not be using. Neither tool charges by the message. Figures are as of 2026-10-23 for both.
Their pricing, from the source: Stan Store's pricing page (checked October 2026).
Where Stan Store is genuinely strong
Where Stan Store is the better pick, plainly:
- Selling from a store. Stan hosts courses, digital downloads, bookings and memberships with checkout, and says it charges 0% transaction fees. inDM hosts nothing and sells nothing.
- One subscription for the store and the DMs. AutoDM is included from the $29 a month Creator plan, and its numbers include purchases from AutoDM messages.
- Email sending in the same product. Stan's Creator Pro plan adds email broadcasts and email flows. inDM collects addresses and exports them, and the emails go out from your email tool.
What is Stan Store?
Stan Store is a hosted storefront that sits behind your link-in-bio. Its home page, read on 23 October 2026, says your courses, digital products and bookings are hosted inside your link-in-bio, and that it charges 0% transaction fees. The store lives at stan.store/yourusername, and Stan's help center, updated 16 October 2025, says you cannot use a custom domain.
Stan is not a DM tool first. It is a store that includes one, and AutoDM is the part that overlaps with inDM.
How does Stan Store's auto DM work?
Stan AutoDM sends your message to anyone who comments or DMs a keyword you choose, according to Stan's help center article on setting it up, updated 15 July 2026. The rules it lists:
- Triggers. Keywords work in comments and in DMs, and a keyword in a reply to your story also sends the AutoDM. Keywords are not case sensitive.
- Posts. You choose which posts it applies to, or enable it for all posts.
- What it sends. Your message with a link, to your Stan store or to any outside page. Link clicks are counted either way. Stan's troubleshooting article, updated 12 February 2026, says it shortens links through its own addresses, dm.stan.store and ext-link.com.
- Comment replies. "Comment back" is optional. The setup article warns that turning it on may raise the risk of being flagged as a bot by Meta, and another Stan article, updated 12 February 2026, recommends keeping auto-comment replies off.
- Limits. Stan says quizzes and multi-step flows are not supported yet. Its troubleshooting article says the automation fires only once every 12 hours for each customer's comment, and that other DM apps, ManyChat for one, must be disconnected first.
- Numbers. Sent, Opened, Clicks and Opt-Ins, where Stan defines Opt-Ins as purchases from the AutoDM.
Stan's own pages disagree on one point. Its April 2026 blog summary of AutoDM mentions multi-step sequences and lead capture, while its July 2026 help article says multi-step flows are not supported yet. We went with the help article, which is newer and more specific.
What does Stan Store cost?
Stan Store costs $29 a month for Creator or $99 a month for Creator Pro, or $300 and $948 if you pay for a year, per its help center and pricing guide, read on 23 October 2026.
- Creator includes the storefront, booking tools, an unlimited course builder, subscriptions, lead magnets and email collection, community features and AutoDM.
- Creator Pro adds discount codes, limited-quantity offers, upsells and order bumps, dynamic pricing and payment plans with Stan Payments, Afterpay and Klarna, funnels, affiliate management, email broadcasts and email flows, and pixel tracking.
Stan says it charges 0% transaction fees, and you pay the standard Stripe or PayPal processing fee. It has no free plan, and its home page and pricing guide offer a 14-day free trial. Each Stan Store needs its own email address and its own subscription, with no bundle discount, per its help center updated 23 June 2026. For how Stan's fees compare with Shopify and Gumroad, see Shopify vs Stan Store.
Can Stan Store collect emails from Instagram DMs?
Not inside the DM: Stan collects the address on a page it links to. Its help center describes a Collect Emails product, also called a lead magnet, that gives out a file or a link in exchange for an address. Name and email are required fields, and you can add others (updated 26 August 2025). Its guide to pairing AutoDM with email, updated 12 February 2026, suggests a $0 digital download page as the sign-up page, with AutoDM sending its link when someone comments a keyword.
inDM's email gate works the other way: the DM itself asks for the address, then sends your link, so the person never leaves the thread. The email capture entry defines the term.
If you carry addresses into Stan from a CSV file, check Stan's import rules first. Its help center, updated 7 October 2026, says it accepts CSV files only, ignores any contact that has only an email address and no name, and allows up to 5,000 manually imported contacts per store.
Stan Store vs inDM: which should you choose?
Choose Stan Store if you sell courses, downloads, bookings or memberships and want the store, the checkout and AutoDM under one subscription. If you already pay for Creator, AutoDM is part of it.
Choose inDM if the DMs are the job. The free plan is $0 forever with no card, covers every automation type and unlimited keywords on one Instagram account, and asks for an email inside the DM. inDM shows the exact DM on screen before anything sends, and keeps a unified inbox and a contacts list you can export as a CSV file. When you need up to 5 Instagram accounts, your brand alone on your messages or a follow-up message hours later, Growth adds them at $14.99 a month after 7 days free. The pricing page lists every difference.
inDM answers people who comment on your post or reel, reply to your story or message you first. It cannot message anyone who has never contacted you, and it has no AI-written replies.
Is inDM a good Stan Store alternative?
It depends on which half of Stan you want to replace. inDM is a good alternative to AutoDM if what you need is comment-to-DM, story replies and keyword replies with a live preview and a free plan. It is not an alternative to the store, because inDM has no checkout, courses, bookings or memberships. Some creators keep Stan for the store and use a separate tool for the DMs, which raises the next question.
Can you use Stan Store and inDM together?
Yes, with one change. Stan's help center says other apps managing your Instagram DMs must be disconnected before AutoDM fires, and that disconnecting Instagram from Stan makes your AutoDMs inactive but keeps them saved. So switch AutoDM off, let inDM send the DMs, and put your Stan product link in the message.
Two things follow. Meta's private replies page, updated 30 June 2026 and read on 23 October 2026, allows only one private reply per comment, within 7 days of the comment, so two tools answering the same comment would compete. Our page on using two DM tools on one account explains how to split your posts. And Stan's AutoDM numbers describe AutoDM's own messages, so tag links sent from inDM with the UTM link generator and read the results in your own analytics.
How we checked
On 23 October 2026 we read Stan's home page, its pricing guide (updated 22 July 2026) and its AutoDM blog post (7 April 2026) on stan.store, and these help.stan.store articles: How to Set Up Stan AutoDM (15 July 2026), AutoDM comment replies, workflow errors and pairing with other features (all 12 February 2026), Creator vs. Creator Pro (23 June 2026), Collect Emails (26 August 2025), Email Flows pricing (12 February 2026), importing your list (7 October 2026), custom domains (16 October 2025) and more than one store (23 June 2026).
Every Stan fact comes from stan.store or help.stan.store. We did not open a Stan account and did not test either tool, so anything inside the app is not covered. Stan's pages also disagree on small points, such as whether import is on Creator or only Creator Pro, so treat every figure as a snapshot.
For another comparison where the other tool is not mainly a DM tool, see Wishlink vs inDM. For the tool most people start from, see ManyChat vs inDM.

Questions, answered plainly
Does Stan Store have an auto DM feature?
Yes. Stan AutoDM sends your message and link by DM to anyone who comments or DMs a keyword you choose, or replies to your story with it, according to Stan's help center, updated 15 July 2026. It is included in the Creator plan at $29 a month. Stan says it does not support quizzes or multi-step flows yet.
How much does Stan Store cost?
Creator is $29 a month or $300 a year, and Creator Pro is $99 a month or $948 a year, per Stan's help center and pricing guide, read on 23 October 2026. Stan says it charges 0% transaction fees, so you pay only the Stripe or PayPal processing fee. There is no free plan, and Stan offers a 14-day free trial.
Is inDM a good Stan Store alternative?
It depends on what you need. inDM suits you if you want comment-to-DM, story replies and keyword replies with a live preview, the email asked inside the DM and a free plan. Stan Store suits you if you want a store with checkout, courses and bookings that includes AutoDM. inDM has no store and no AI-written replies.
Can I use Stan Store and inDM together?
Yes, with AutoDM switched off. Stan's help center says other apps managing your Instagram DMs must be disconnected before AutoDM fires. Let inDM send the DMs and put your Stan product link in the message. Meta allows one private reply per comment, so only one tool should answer a given post.
Can Stan AutoDM collect emails inside the DM?
Not according to Stan's help center. AutoDM sends a link, and Stan's guide to building an email list points that link at a Stan page where name and email are required fields. inDM's email gate asks for the address inside the DM before it sends your link.
Can I switch from ManyChat or another tool?
Yes. Disconnect isn't even required first: connect your Instagram to inDM, rebuild your key automations (most creators have three or four that matter), preview, and set them live. Conversation history doesn't transfer between tools, no tool can import another's, so export your contacts from the old tool for your records. The switch guides walk through the order of operations.
Is Instagram DM automation allowed?
Yes. When it runs through Meta's official Instagram API on a professional account, and only messages people whose own action invited it, like commenting a keyword or replying to a story. That's exactly how inDM works. What breaks the rules is different: unofficial apps that ask for your password, scraping, purchased engagement, and cold outreach to people who never engaged.
