Yes, three social media suites now include Instagram DM automation for keyword comments. Read on 12 October 2026, Hootsuite includes it from Professional, Vista Social on every paid plan, and Metricool through Flows on paid plans for a limited time. Whether a separate tool is worth it depends on what each plan counts and what it costs at your roster.
An agency that already pays for one of these suites is asking a billing question: is a second subscription worth carrying? The answer differs by suite and by roster size, so this page sets the plans side by side, prices them at 15 and 30 client accounts, and says plainly when the suite you have is enough. Every figure was read from the vendor's own page on 12 October 2026. Hootsuite bills annually and publishes no monthly price, and Vista Social and Metricool open on annual billing, so the figures below for those two are the monthly ones.
Which plans include DM automation in Hootsuite, Vista Social and Metricool?
Each suite includes comment-to-DM on paid plans, with different limits on what counts as one flow, one contact or one brand.
Hootsuite. Read on 12 October 2026, Hootsuite sells by the seat. Standard, at $99 per seat a month billed annually, does not include DM automations. Professional ($199), Advanced ($399) and Enterprise include them, and a keyword comment on an Instagram post or reel sends a DM. Hootsuite allows one flow per post or reel. The post has to be created and scheduled first, and the flow fires on the organic post, not on a boosted version, according to Hootsuite's help centre, updated 29 September 2026. Professional and above set no limit on social accounts, where Standard manages up to 10.
Vista Social. Read on 12 October 2026, every Vista Social paid plan includes DM automation, and each plan has its own cap on DM contacts. Professional is $99 a month with 15 social profiles, 2 team members and 10,000 DM contacts. Advanced is $199 with 30 profiles, 3 team members and 25,000 DM contacts. Scale is $449 with 70 profiles, 4 team members and 100,000 DM contacts. Enterprise is custom. A profile is one social account on any network. The link that lets a client connect their own profile is on Scale and Enterprise only, and the price of extra profiles and team members is not published.
Metricool. Read on 12 October 2026, Flows, Metricool's comment-to-DM feature, is on paid plans at no extra cost for a limited time, and Metricool's page says it is due to become a paid add-on on Starter and Advanced. The add-on's price and date are not published, and Flows is not on the Free plan. Metricool prices by brand, where one brand is one client or business with one profile per network. Starter is $25 for 5 brands and $45 for 10. Advanced is $67 for 15 brands, $107 for 25 and $210 for 50. The client connect link, which needs no Metricool account, is on Advanced and Custom, and it expires after 71 hours.
What does each suite cost at 15 and 30 client accounts?
Read on 12 October 2026, the lowest plan with DM automation that covers 15 client accounts is $199 per seat a month on Hootsuite, $99 on Vista Social, $67 on Metricool and $39 on inDM, and for 30 accounts it is $199 per seat, $199, $210 and $99. The table shows what each figure counts. All are monthly billing except Hootsuite, which publishes annual billing only.
| Tool | 15 client accounts | 30 client accounts | What the price counts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hootsuite | Professional, $199 per seat a month, billed annually | Professional, $199 per seat a month, billed annually | Seats. A team of 3 is 3 seats, or $597 a month billed annually. No limit on social accounts |
| Vista Social | Professional, $99 (15 profiles) | Advanced, $199 (30 profiles) | Profiles on any network. A client on Instagram and Facebook is two profiles |
| Metricool | Advanced, $67 (15 brands) | Advanced, $210 (50 brands) | Brands. The 25-brand tier stops at 25, so 30 clients need the 50-brand tier. DM automation is free for now |
| inDM | Agency Lite, $39 (up to 15 accounts) | Agency Pro, $99 (30 accounts, then $3 a month for each one after) | Instagram accounts. The whole team is included |
Two of those counts change the arithmetic more than the sticker price does. Vista Social counts profiles, so 15 clients who each run Instagram and Facebook are 30 profiles, and that moves the roster from Professional at $99 to Advanced at $199. Metricool counts brands, so a client on three networks is still one brand. Hootsuite's Professional price has no account count in it, only seats.
What does each plan count besides accounts?
Read on 12 October 2026, each plan counts something besides accounts: seats, DM contacts, brands or, on inDM, nothing beyond accounts.
- Hootsuite counts seats. Each person on your team who needs access is a seat at the plan's price.
- Vista Social counts DM contacts and team members. Professional covers 10,000 contacts and 2 team members, Advanced 25,000 and 3, and Scale 100,000 and 4. A client whose reel takes off adds contacts toward the cap, and a larger team needs more team members.
- Metricool counts brands, and it will count Flows too. The add-on is free today and due to become paid, with no price or date published.
- inDM counts no messages and no contacts on any plan. Growth and both agency plans include the whole team, with no seat count.
What does a dedicated DM tool add?
A dedicated DM tool adds its own builder and its own way of counting, and for inDM that means the features below. None of them is a claim that a suite lacks the same thing, except where a suite's own page says so.
- Automations built on the post itself. You pick a post or reel from the client's account and attach the keyword, the DM and the public reply. Hootsuite's help centre says its flow needs the post to be created and scheduled first.
- A follow gate and an email gate. The DM can ask the commenter to follow the account or share an email address as a step in the conversation.
- A follow-up message. On Growth and above, a second message goes out 30 minutes to 20 hours after the first. Set up a follow-up DM walks through it.
- Up to 3 links in one automation. Growth and above carry up to 3 links in a single automation.
- Link analytics. You see who clicked each link and the country they clicked from. Track clicks on Instagram DM links explains how.
- A public reply that posts after the DM. The reply under the comment appears once the DM has gone out.
- A connect link on every plan, within the plan's account allowance. A member of the workspace types the client's handle and sends a link. The client logs in on Instagram's own screen, needs no inDM account and shares no password, and the link works once and expires after 7 days. Vista Social and Metricool also have client connect links, on the plans named above.
- Replies in 14 languages for the asks inDM writes. The follow ask, the email ask and their buttons follow one language setting per workspace, and everything you write sends exactly as written.
ManyChat alternatives for agencies compares inDM with the other dedicated tools.
When is the suite you already pay for enough?
The suite you already pay for is enough when your DM volumes sit inside its caps, one keyword per post covers what your clients need, and your team prefers everything in one tool.
If you already pay for Professional on Hootsuite, or for any Vista Social plan, a separate DM tool may be one bill too many. Read on 12 October 2026, the limit to check on Hootsuite is one flow per post or reel. On Vista Social it is the DM-contact cap on your plan. On Metricool it is the add-on, because Flows costs nothing today and no price has been published for later. If none of those limits touches your clients, the DM automation already in your plan does the job.
A separate tool starts to earn its place when a client needs a follow-up message, a gate, several links in one DM or click reports, or when the second counter on your suite's bill keeps rising faster than your client list. The DM automation cost calculator prices inDM at any number of accounts, and what DM automation costs an agency sets the dedicated tools against each other at 5, 15 and 30.
The honest boundary: what inDM does not do
inDM does Instagram and nothing else, and four things follow from that.
- Instagram only. There is no WhatsApp, Messenger, TikTok, SMS or email automation.
- No scheduling or publishing. inDM does not schedule or publish posts, so it sits beside whatever tool you use for that.
- No combined dashboard across clients. inDM shows one account on screen at a time, and the totals across clients are yours to add up.
- No per-client permissions. Everyone in a workspace sees every connected account, so one teammate cannot be given one client and kept away from the rest.
If one tool for scheduling and DMs decides it for you, the suite you already pay for is the better fit today, and that is worth knowing before you add a second bill.
What to do with this
Count three things: your client accounts, the people on your team who build automations, and your busiest client's monthly DM contacts. Those turn each plan above into one figure. inDM for social media managers covers a single manager's setup, and inDM for agencies covers a full roster.
