Broadcast channel
Why it matters for creators
Broadcast channels are the closest thing Instagram has to an owned audience, and they sit in the one place people already check. Someone who joins has raised their hand deliberately, which makes them a meaningfully warmer audience than a follower count.
The trade is that it is a megaphone rather than a conversation. Followers cannot reply, so nothing that happens in a channel generates the inbound message that opens a messaging window, and no automation can respond inside one. It builds attention; it does not build a list you can act on.
The practical pairing is to use the channel for reach and a DM funnel for capture. A broadcast that tells people to comment a keyword on a specific post routes them into somewhere automation can actually work — and unlike a channel, an email address or a contact record is yours if Instagram changes the rules.
