Creator account

Why it matters for creators

If you're an individual (a coach, artist, athlete, writer), this is the professional account type built for you, and it satisfies the requirement that DM automation tools can only work with professional accounts. Switching from a personal account is free and reversible.

The choice between Creator and Business is low-stakes: both give you insights and API access, and both work with DM automation. Creator accounts lean toward individual needs (profile labels like "Writer", simpler inbox filtering) while Business accounts lean toward shops and teams. Pick the one that matches how you present yourself.

What either one adds over a personal account is a specific list (private replies, story-reply handling, a unified inbox and DM analytics) none of which exist on a personal profile, where every DM is typed by hand. That comparison sits in context in what Instagram DMs are.

Choosing between the two? Creator vs business account on Instagram sets out what Instagram's own pages say differs, and Instagram creator tools and controls shows where the creator settings live in the app.
